Walk The Walk

I want to take a moment to write about something very important to me. Today, a good friend and I participated in The Walk for Hasbro Children's Hospital.  The Walk  is to raise money for programs and initiatives at Hasbro Children's Hospital for children with cancer and other terminal illnesses.  I feel like so many people are affected or know someone who is affected by Cancer, including myself  so I really try to jump at  any chance I have to help others who are as well.  This was one of those opportunities.
The Walk was set in Providence with the option of doing either a 2.5 mile walk or a 6 mile walk. Of course we choose the longer one in order to experience complete satisfaction.  My friend and I were on a team for her ex boyfriend who lost his fight with cancer on 01/01/10 at the age of 18.  Our team consisted of 7 people total, most of whom were close relatives of Donny.  Although I never met Donny, I felt great satisfaction out of helping my friend raise money for a great cause. To this date our team has raised over $2000 for Hasbro and isn't stopping there.  Donations are accepted until December 1, 2010 and I hope to raise $300 solely.  Anyone who is interested in donating can contact me for more information.
Another great thing about doing the walk was having the chance to see Providence from a different perspective.  I discovered there are so many amazing restaurants and shops in Providence that go unnoticed to people who drive by them.  Walking allowed me to really see what Providence offered and the beauty of the city as a whole.  After today, I am encouraged to participate in more fundraising activities in future and hope that others feel the same.
